IBiography

Jean Hérard Richard, professionally known as Richie, is a Haitian drummer, maestro, songwriter, arranger, producer and vocalist. Born in Port-au-Prince and raised in Cap-Haïtien, he developed an interest in drums and musical direction from an early age.

During his school years, Richie formed Power X and performed with Fashion. After moving to the United States, he studied music technology and helped establish Tah-Pajj with musicians including Arly Larivière, Gazzman Couleur, Nickenson Prud’homme and Ernst Benjamin.

Richie officially joined Zenglen in 1999. As drummer, musical director, composer and producer, he became an important architect of the group’s sound on albums including Easy Konpa, Let It Groove, Do It Right, 5 Etwal and 5e Vitès.

In 2012, Richie founded Klass and assumed the roles of bandleader, drummer, songwriter and producer. Under his direction, Klass became a leading modern-konpa band through the albums Fè’l Vini Avan, Fè’l Ak Tout Kè’w, Ret Nan Liy Ou and My Pain Killer.
